Thoughts on Feeling Intimidated

I don't like it.
I won't let it happen again.
The End.

Maternity Questions Killed Me Today

30% on the quiz.  ACK!!  Here are today's review topics:

Moro Reflex:  I knew this one, but I missed TWO questions.  How in the world...

Naegele's Rule:
1st day of LMP (last menstrual period) + 1 year - 3 months + 7 days = due date
Check out this quick read published in July 2010 about using Parikh's Formula instead of Naegele's Rule.

McBurney's Point: 1/3rd distance from the anterior superior iliac spine to the umbilicus.  Deep tenderness in this area can mean appendicitis.  ImpactedNurse has a nice post with 6 other abdominal assessment "signs".

Sphincter of Oddi, Babinski's Sign and Fundal Height

Reviewing these topics today---

Sphincter of Oddi:  Controls bile and pancreatic juice flow. Yum-o!!  Go ahead and color it, you know you want to...

Watch the big toe! If it moves up that may indicate CNS issues. This sign is normal in babies though because they are not yet neurologically mature.

Fundal height by week:

NCLEX Prep

I'm on a 4 week break right now and thought it would be a good time to get cranking again on these NCLEX questions. Summer classes were crazy and I never got around to carving out time to do even one study question. I've decided to keep track of my quiz scores as I do them daily. I got this idea from an RN friend who I can't find online anymore...boo hiss! (Sarah Page if you are reading this--Let me know where you are!!) Anyway, I'm going to post my scores daily. I'll mainly be using Saunders Comprehensive Review NCLEX-RN book. So far, this has been my all-time favorite. Other books will be added though because I might be nearing the end of the questions from Saunders. You can keep up with my progress by clicking on the "Daily NCLEX" link under my top header.

Getting Ready...

Just checked my D2l account and two of my classes are posted...it's almost time!! I'm completely freaked out with the amount I have on my plate for this fall. I'm not sure how I'm going to juggle homeschooling and my nursing classes at the same time, but I'm going to give it a good jolly effort. Well, not too sure how jolly I will be, but I'm going to try. Two more weeks to gather my senses....

No Dr. Zoidberg's For Me....

and for that, I'm pretty thankful!

I wanted to order my favorite Anywear shoes, but I needed to make sure it was gonna have some strappy-goodness so they would stay on my feet as I ran to save a life(ok, as I ran to get a bedpan...one day I will save a life though! lol!). Unfortunately, had to go with a different design....one that reminded me of Dr. Zoidberg's chest and belly...sigh.

Here's the shoe I had to order (in black so Dr. Zoidbergishness can be seen):Here's Dr. Zoidberg...uh, nudey:

See the resemblance?? Ok...I know you may not quickly see the resemblance, and that's fine because what really matters here is that I...ME...JENNY...was gonna think of Dr. Zoidberg everytime I put those shoes on my feet. Maybe that would have been a good thing...I don't know. I was planning on making the best of it though because Anywear shoes are so honkin' comfortable! What I really wanted was a shoe that was smooooooth with no design.

Well, the day came to pick up my Dr. Zoidbergs, but when I arrived at my favorite Scrub shop, I found that they had been discontinued. What!?....oh geez....Pete took me to Wiseman's and I got Crocs instead.
Are Crocs even in style anymore??? Great...probably not. Now my reputation as a fashion diva is shot....(if you knew me you would be cackling right about now!) Anyway, they are white, mostly smooth and more importantly, they are comfortable. So, if they AREN'T in style anymore....please don't tell me, ok? Thanks!

I do feel like I would be a better nurse if I could wear these though.....no wait....these!!!
